René Higuita, born 1966, a Colombian goalkeeper, 175 cm tall. Long before "sweeper-keeper" became a tactical term, he was the man who treated the goal as a midfield. BallFact has built a season-by-season file of his 24 seasons, across five countries — Colombia, Spain, Mexico, Ecuador, Venezuela — running until 2009.

The public remembers him for two numbers: the 1995 Wembley scorpion kick, and a figure no ledger ever verified — "300+ saves". The latter was rebuilt, season by season, to 214 by BallFact Case 007. This file is not about that number; it is about the man behind it.

How to read this table? Look at the far-right "OVR" column. It starts at 74 in 1988—1990 and moves down only 8 points across the next twenty-two years — a slope flattened by longevity, not a cliff. Individual keeper fields carry no percentage-style heat scale (that exists for outfield duelling/progression metrics), so this page reads closer to a stack of annual medicals than a power heat-map.

Why file a man defined by a false number

Higuita is neither a genius who fell overnight nor a recluse who was wronged. He was hijacked by a number: "300 saves". Case 007 already recounted it to 214 — but did not delete it; it gave the legend its own ledger. That is this archive's standing policy toward folklore: never erase, but let it sit beside the verifiable part with its source named.

This file moves the camera from the number back to the man. A 175 cm goalkeeper who traded range for height, and held a position-revolution for twenty-two years. His OVR curve has no Recoba-shaped break — only a slope the years slowly flattened. That, too, is an underrated kind of greatness.

Case 007 tries the number "300"; this file tries the man behind it. One is about the account, one about the owner of the account. They cross-link and corroborate without re-trying the same case.
